In desperate need of Soft Centered Eggs (Performance, 2021)
Videoperformance 20:39min - PW: softestfast
In desperate need of Soft Centered Eggs is a videoperformance and was created in March 2021, immediately following the first pandemic winter. The work features a dancer (Laura Hrgota-Jannene) in beige underwear performing within a white cube with a concrete floor. The video unfolds through a dreamlike, symbolic language. The dancer appears to seek protection: They balances in a headstand inside a handbag and equips themself with eggshells tied around their wrists, using them to explore and sense their surroundings. Gradually, they constructs an egg-like membrane in which they disappear.
The piece directly references the lived realities of pandemic life: persistent isolation and its inescapable effects. At the same time, the egg functions as a multilayered symbol: walking on eggshells is visually reimagined as a tactile, exploratory act, undertaken by the nearly naked dancer within the minimal, gallery-like space. The work thus creates a fragile reflection on the tension between self-protection and exposure.
